Ok, so I took Plissken to the pet store today, and basically did a check-up, and to have to have Plissken probed... Which is basically to say I wanted to determine the sex of Plissken. For a long time I though Plissken was a female (based on other things I've read and tried). But... turns out that Plissken is a BOY!!
Just before Christmas, Plissken shed. This time it was about ten and a half weeks instead of seven, like last time. Since January of this year, she has shed six times, averaging every other month. I still don't know her length. He shed skin was in too many small pieces to measure it and it's hard for me to measure her without assistance. I just haven't gotten around to it.
Then most interesting news of the last two months have been that she's now eating small mice, which are considerably larger than the pinks and fuzzies was putting down previously. I decided to start her small mice and she seems to not have any problems with them. For her safety I have to knock them out first. Admittedly, I've only been feeding Plissken slightly less often, so that and the cooler weather may account for how long it's been since the last time she shed. I'll upload videos later after I've converted them. So far I have three videos of her eating a small mouse. View more pictures...
Plissken shed once again. This time it was about seven weeks instead of six, like last time. Since September of last year, she has shed six times, averaging every other month. View more pictures...
Only six and a half weeks since her last shedding, Plissken has shed again. The skin measured 36.5 inches. 2.5 inches larger than the previous shed skin. I wonder if I'm feeding her too much. Her head is barely the size of the tip of my pinky finger, so I don't feed her rodents that are that large, but I do typically feed her two at a time, once a week on average. Also, since it's summer her environment has been warmer. I'm guessing the warmer climate can speed up her metabolism and possibly promote a more rapid growth spurt. Now, I don't know if that's true, but I thought it sounded pretty good in theory. Also, since I've been feeding her frozen/thawed rodents lately (that's all that has been available at the pet store) I haven't been recording the feedings on video. However, I plan to feed her again on Thursday, so I'll see what's available then. View more pictures...
I posted a new live animal feeding video on YouTube. The video is already available on this site in its entirety. However, this video has a music track, a title and closing credits. It's quite dramatic, actually. Check it out here.
I have finally finished uploading tons of pictures and videos. Check them out in the pictures and videos section of the website.
I had to take down the live streaming video link of Plissken because I can't get into my uStream account. Besides, there really isn't much to see of plissken during the day since she's a nocturnal creature. Additionally, my camera equipment sucks for close up live video. If I am ever able to afford a real video camera I hope to be able to use that. I may put the link back up before that happens, that is if I can find the drivers disc to one of the other webcams I have. I was spring cleaning my office one day and put those discs in a "safe place." Those darn safe places!
Anyway, keep checking back as I plan to add more odds and ends to the website on occasion.
Meanwhile, enjoy a year's worth of pictures and videos of Plissken!
I am truly an uploading fiend! If you visit the video gallery you can see that I've uploaded many videos. In fact all the videos I planned to upload over the last year! The site and gallery is currently a work in progress. I still need to set the dimensions and thumbnails for the remaining videos. After that I plan to finish uploading several more pictures.
I've noticed that the Pictures and Videos pages don't look as good in Internet Explorer as they do in Firefox. I recommend that you go to GetFireFox.com and install it, and not even use Internet Explorer anymore. I've been using it for several years and I just love it!
I finally added a bunch of new pictures and videos. Click on the Pictures & Videos menu link on the left. You need to register and login to add comments. I will be adding more pictures and videos shortly.
I guess in honor of the site going live today, Plissken decided to shed her snake skin! This is the fourth time since September. The last time she shed (2/11/07) her skin measured 28 inches. This time her shed skin measured 31 inches. View more pictures...
Today I learned the importance of feeding tongs. Plissken bit me while trying to feed her... TWICE! Sorry, I don't have video of this one. I didn't expect it. Besides, you know how you're not supposed to jerk when bitten because you might break off the snake's teeth? Well, I think that jerking is an uncontrollable action when bitten and I doubt I would have been able to get a good shot of what was happening. It hurt more than I'd expected.
Plissken had her first kill today! She constricted it until it was dead then ate it. I was so proud of her! She's constricted before, but not to the point of death. The video is on this page. Look for the video called 2007-01-29 Plissken Feeding.
Welcome to MyPlissken.com. A website devoted to snakes. Particularly MY pet Corn snake, Plissken. I will be adding a lot more snake related content soon, including images, feeding videos and additional information about Plissken. But for now, what you see is what you get.
